On a recent snow day I made a chicken pot pie from The Pioneer Woman's cookbook. It was really yummy and pretty easy to make. I had an extra pie crust, so I gathered my little helpers and a few ingredients so that we could work on a flat apple pie for dessert together.
| They LOVE helping in the kitchen. Just look at their eager faces! |
| They started chopping up the apples with butter knives for me. |
| They each had their own technique. |
| Of course there was much sampling. |
| After all of the apples were chopped, it was time to add some other ingredients. |
| Flour, spices, and sugar. |
| How does one clean up spilled sugar? Certainly this isn't the way! |
| Taking turns |
| Now it's time to mix! |
| And of course some more tasting. |
| Such happy helpers! |
| Now it's time to roll, what K & T have been waiting for since they saw the rolling pin |
| S-T-R-E-T-C-H buddy! |
| She was much more dainty in her rolls. |
| We did it! We carefully put the dough on a pan. |
| We dumped the apple mixture on the dough. |
| And folded the edges over. |
| Lovely right? |
| I put it in the oven and we ate dinner while we waited for it to bake. |
| He actually tried the pot pie, he liked the filling more than the crust. |
| She gobbled dinner up, her taste buds continue to amaze me. |
| Here's our creation, pretty good for a mom with a camera and two preschoolers. |
| T was very happy at dessert time, he IS Mr. Sweet Tooth. |
| K was very pleased with our 'work'. |
Thanks for helping K & T, you two are super duper in the kitchen!
Here's the bonus, we saw this thing on clearance at the mall last month. It's a miracle that we didn't bring it home. But both Daddy & T were super impressed. They probably would have wanted it in our yard year round. Maybe next year boys!
