Backyard Happenings

One of our favorite things about where we live is the yard.  There's lots of room to play, garden, and entertain.  Andy & I had talked about putting up a fence since we moved in 6 years ago, but it kept being put off.  Well, with the arrival of K & T, we rearranged our priorities and kicked into fence mode, at least Andy did.  He got quotes from a couple of companies, and watched some YouTube videos about DIY-ing it.  He had recently helped a good friend of ours put up a privacy fence, and that sealed the deal for doing it himself.
This is a view of the back of our house pre-fence.  The fence on the right is our awesome neighbors'. We decided to do a split rail fence to match theirs.  Our grass is usually MUCH greener, but we're having a bit of a drought this summer.

Andy's had a lot of help with this project, thank goodness!  My dad has been here for several weekends in the blazing heat sharing the load.  He's a civil engineer and doesn't mess around.  :)  I've never seen such a straight & beautiful fence!

Here's Andy & Aaron (a mechanical engineer) putting in the first of the fence.
Andy rented this post hole digger for one day, but theyended up digging a lot of the holes themselves over a couple of weekends.  Turns out we have a lot of rocks.
I stayed inside with the kids but we did take out popsicles, drinks and lots of water.  K, of course, wants to be out 'helping' as much as possible.
More building
WOW!  What a difference the fence makes!  They just have the gates and the wire left to do and then K & T can run wild!
Another view, doesn't it look great?  Thank you YouTube, and of course, Aaron & my dad.  :)
So, in the midst of the fence building, a good friend of ours sent us an interesting text.  Her neighbor had moved out and left a swingset.  The new neighbor has older children and didn't want the set.  And he didn't want money for it.  Were we interested?  A nanosecond later, YES WE ARE!  Andy gather his army of helpers early one Saturday, and hauled it over to our place in just a few, but large pieces.
Bringing it home.
Putting in all back together.
Almost done.  At this point K knew exactly what was happening and she could hardly wait to go out.  She stood at our kitchen window and watched for quite a few minutes.
Aaron & Kevin putting on the roof.
Slide's almost ready...
And we're off!  T enjoyed his inaugural swing from Papa.  Papa looks pretty happy too.
Uncle Miguel helped K get her swing on.
Thank you, Thank you to all those who have transformed our backyard into a play place for K & T.  It's been an incredible summer!
