We took K & T to the
Wright Brothers Memorial Park in Kitty Hawk, where these brothers actually experimented with flight more than 100 years ago. What an amazing feat they achieved there using the wind and a glider.
I'm not sure how much the kids understood about these incredible men during our visit, but it was a beautiful day to be outside, and it's always a good day to be together.

| K & T with the brothers. |
| Walking around the memorial. We walked up to the top of that hill! |
| Andy showing the kids the ocean. We had a beautiful view after that steep walk. |
| A look back at where we walked. |
| It was a little windy way up there! |
| The monument is really impressive. |
| After walking back, we watched a park ranger talk about kite building. There were a bunch of children sitting on the floor of this cabin, watching the ranger build a simple kite from a garbage bag, dowel rods, string, and a little tape. After she was done, she asked the crowd if anyone had any questions. K was the only one who raised her hand. My heart started to beat quickly, and had I been closer to her, I would have probably told her to put her hand down. From my teaching experience, I have seen some crazy questions go way off topic in whole group discussions. And I quickly had visions of K telling the ranger about garbage bags, or about the shells she had collected, or that she wants to be a mermaid. But the ranger asked her her question and K said, "How does that stay up?" YOU COULD HAVE BLOWN ME OVER!!! I was so shocked that 1. she asked an actual question, and 2. it was a question on topic, and 3. it was a really great question! I was so proud of her. The ranger asked her her name, and then asked K to follow her out into the field, as well as all of us. She then let K run with the kite to see how it actually flies. Check out our little kite runner! |

| K beamed the whole time, and she got to keep the kite. What a great memory of this trip! |
| As a bonus, we ran into a family from our church at the park. This is T with his buddy, F, they are in the same nursery class at church. Small world! |
| On our way out of the park, we stopped at this full size model of the glider flown by the Wright Brothers. T & K had a ball climbing all over this thing. |
| After such an exciting, and energy filled morning, slurpees were required as refreshment for all of us. |
| Yum! |
| Just one last look at these smiles. Just another great day of our vacation! |
