Getting there

We woke the kids up about midnight on the night we left for OBX to travel in the car.  Just about everyone we talked to said that driving at night is the best thing to do with little kids.  They would sleep, they wouldn't need to stop for the restroom a bunch, and we could make great time since there wouldn't be much traffic.
T was obviously still very sleepy when we woke him up.  He just laid on the couch like this until we put him in the car.
K was tired, but seemed excited to finally be heading for the beach.  We've been talking about it all summer and she was anxious to go.
The kids were WONDERFUL in the car.  They slept, asked questions about what they were seeing out the window, read books and watched movies on the ipad.  Andy & I talked about how well they did the whole week.  We were both really surprised at the smoothness of the 12 hour drive.  Yes, T is holding a pacifier.  One of my summer goals was to rid him of it.  He only uses it when he's sleeping (and he was sleeping in the car).  Potty training is still on going with him, and I'm afraid that taking bink away right now will be just too much for our little man.  He's only little once.  This fall might just be the time to cut it.
K taking a little cat nap during the ride.  She chose to take Baby with her for the trip, and her pink stuffed shark.  T, of course, chose Friend and Goofy.
A selfie about 10 hours in the drive.  Still smiling!
Once we arrived in OBX and got our keys to the house, we were all anxious to spread out and get settled.  K & T played on our bed while we unpacked a few things.
Once unpacked and grocery shopping done, there was just enough time to walk down to the beach before it got dark.
T wanted to wear his puddle jumper (life jacket) and of course take a shovel with us in case we could dig in the sand.
K & T's first steps on the beach with Daddy.  What a great scene, it's a dream come true!
Beach selfie with my girl.
Beach selfie with our little man.
My favorite pic of the night.  What a beautiful young girl K is growing to be!

We returned to the beach house after our short walk home and decided to play in the pool until Nana, Papa, Emma & Spencer arrived.  I didn't take any pics of that first night, I was having way too much fun!  Check digging in the sand off the kids' wish list!
