homecoming

Auntie Sarah came to visit last week, the kids were so excited to see her!  And from what I gathered, I think she was pretty excited to see the kids too.  They have a great time together.  She flew in last Thursday, played with K & T while we were at work on Friday, met up with us at Ikea on Sat and flew home on Sunday.  I'm sure it was a whirlwind trip for her, but we loved seeing her! We are already looking forward to her next trip here.
After baths Thursday night, the kids got to facetime with Uncle Miguel.  We sure do miss that guy a whole bunch too!
Friday evening was the homecoming parade for the high school that my first graders will attend, and my alma mater.  Students and staff were encouraged to participate in the parade.  I was excited to bring K & T to ride the float, and Aunt Sarah was a trooper and came too.  How many opportunities does one get to actually be in a parade anyway?  These tie dyed shirts are part of our school spiritwear and just scream fun.  The Panther ears were made especially for the parade by our PTA.
K & T weren't quite sure what to expect, K actually told me a couple of times that she was nervous, but we kept reassuring her that she would love it.  Here the kids are waiting for the float to begin moving.  Sarah & I were sitting right in front of them.  Safety first!
Just a quick selfie of us on the float.  T loved that noisemaker he is holding in the picture.  Luckily we had to give it back.  :)
K obviously was ready to get the float moving, but we had to wait for the other floats to go first.  A sucker made it all better.
See?  Now she's smiley.  We started moving just after I snapped this shot.
T was getting a little antsy sitting on the straw, so Sarah snuggled with him on her lap.  He was in a great position to throw candy!
All smiles!
Look at these cool kids, they got to ride in a garbage truck!
This is one of our awesome PTA moms all dressed up as a panther.  I've been lucky enough to have three of her children come through my class.   She helped our float belt out our school song as it played on a loop from the truck driven by her husband.  T & K quickly picked the song up!  "What's the very best school in town..."
Another cool float.
It was funny trying to explain to the kids that we were actually supposed to throw candy at people.  It didn't take long for them to figure out what to do.  We saw some pretty creative people in the crowd as well as quite a few friends.  Some people had umbrellas opened up for us to toss candy into, what a good idea!
Just one more shot of K.  Once we arrived at the high school, we saw the rest of the floats and a guy dressed up like a Knight, but the kids didn't want to go and take a picture with him.  So, we found our way back to our car and saw...
a horse!  It had been in the parade and the owners were letting him walk a bit.  We stopped and asked a few questions about the horse.
K was in heaven when she was asked if she wanted to brush the horse.  T did it too, but only for a moment.
What a pretty boy!
Once back home we snapped one more shot of Aunt Sarah and the kids.  It was a great evening!
